Blog Assignment #2

The recent earthquake in Japan measured 9.0 on the richter scale and caused over 10,000 deaths. The 2010 earthquake in Haiti measured 7.1 on the richter scale and caused over 200,000 deaths. Tsunamis followed both earthquakes. How is this possible? Why did the less powerful earthquake cause so many more people to lose their lives? What factors play a role in how many lives are lost in earthquakes? What did you learn in the stop disasters simulation you played?

Remember, half of your tried the earthquake simulation, while the other half of the class tried the tsunami simulation. Read at least 3 blog post from classmates that tried the simulation that you didn't (if you tried earthquake, read posts about the tsunami simulation). Add some comments to the blogs about what you learned from reading their post and ask any questions you might have.

Blog Assignment #1

I'm very happy to say, "It's finally time! Let's start blogging!" Today's assignment requires you two publish your first two blog posts.

  • In your own words, give a summary of the blogging rules and commenting rules found on the top of this page. You should be able to write this post in one paragraph. Focus on the important rules.
  • Introduce yourself to the blogosphere. Sure your friends and some of your classmates know all about you, but remember, your audience is now worldwide.
  • What do you want people to know about you? What are you looking forward to doing with your friends or family in the next month or two?
  • These blogs are going to be a learning experience for us. What do you expect to learn from blogging? What would you like to know more about?

Hello World!

So, this is my first real Kidblog post and I am very excited for you all to join me on Kidblog! We are going to learn so much about each other and so much from each other. Not only will we be blogging with students from our school, but soon we will be blogging with students from other schools as well.
Well, I guess I should write something about myself since your first blogging assignment is to write about yourself. One thing I’m looking forward to is going to Las Vegas this weekend. Sure Vegas is a blast, but what I’m really looking forward to is seeing some of my good friends that I haven’t seen in a long time ….. too long. It gets tough to stay in contact with your friends as they move all throughout the country and have families of their own. I’m also looking forward to taking my family to South Carolina for spring break. My daughter and I have been debating about what type of water is more fun to swim in, the pool or the ocean. My daughter says the pool. I say the hot tub, but she says you can’t really swim in there. What do you say? Pool or ocean?
I am hoping to learn more about my students through these blogs. I find it’s almost impossible to spend time with each of my students when I only see each class for 1 hour per week. This should be a good way for me to know what’s going on in your lives! I’m also hoping that we will learn together from these blogs. You should be able to teach me some things as well. I don’t know everything. I hope that you share some great links with me, teach me about your culture, science, cooking, share movie reviews, and more. I am ready to learn too!
